Prehistoric Prologue

RoboCosm begins with a flashback to the distant past. The two trouble makers Braino and Rotten Apple have escaped back to the Late Cretaceous Age but are being pursued by the Chrono-Fighters (Toy Police who can travel through time). Their prehistoric escapade unintentionally results in the addition of some new toys who will be joining Max on his Robot adventure. Braino and Rotten Apple are apprehended and promise not to cause more trouble, but sometimes promises can be broken.

After Braino and Rotten Apple return from the past, we find Max at home searching for a missing toy. His dad doesn’t know where to find the toy, but he shows Max his latest science project: a robot duplicate of Max. Max volunteers to pilot the robot. This Scientific Diagram shows how the subject (Max) is miniaturized and transported to the target location (inside the robot’s head). The latticework in the background represents the bending of the space/time continuum that results when one is miniaturized and transported into a robot body. After this is accomplished, Max also miniaturizes his favorite toys and brings them on board to join him on board.

This could be considered the central image of RoboCosm. Inside the head of a perfectly human-looking robot is the cockpit seating the pilot.
The interior consists of six separate illustrations combined and framed by the exterior of the head. To the left of the head is a curtain with an outer-space motif and to the right, seen through a window, is a tree housing a couch potato squirrel and some sleeping birds. RoboCosm may be taken literally as reported or may be interpreted as happening only in the imagination of the protagonist.

Toy Headquarters in Bedroom

Our heroes, the good toys, have their headquarters located in the bedroom with room for the Chrono-Fighters, the Super-Pigs, and the Legion of Super Toy's leader: Ultra-Brain. Mostly they sleep in beds but Fish-Pig prefers to sleep in a tank. The Top Secret Room can only be opened by one who has both the code and the key. One secret, however, is revealed on close inspection of this illustration (although I'm not sure the magnification is quite powerful enough that you can read the logo): What magazine does a Time Traveling Chrono-Fighter read while he’s sitting on the toilet? That’s right: TIME magazine!

Looking down from the Cockpit can initially bring on a feeling of vertigo, as the distance looking down from inside your head to the floor seems shockingly immense after you’ve been shrunk down to about the size of a pea. Various readouts on the Main View Screen automatically display all kinds of information which rapidly changes depending on your position in time and space. Sitting to the left of the pilot is Robotic Assistant A-10 and sitting to the right of the pilot is Robotic Assistant M-8. Scattered on the floor of the lab where the Robot Body was constructed are various tools as well as a few of the toys who will soon beam up to join the pilot on his adventure.

The evil (or at least most misguided) Braino's lair is located in the bedroom, but is hidden from the eyes of most people by visual trickery. Also residing in Braino's lair are his henchman, Rotten Apple, and his pet monsters, Ocky-Chock and Lock-Hunch. Oblivious to the mess surrounding them, Ocky-Chock guards the bathroom while Lock-Hunch surveys the room with the telescope to be sure no one is approaching without permission. Also included in the lair are holographic projectors (which disguise the lair as a pile of clothing) and a Hypno-Ray antenna, as well as the dreaded water-shooting Think-Tank!
